Profhilo is an advanced dermal filler made of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA). The HA helps restore moisture and volume to skin, correcting wrinkles while improving skin firmness.
Profhilo is used to treat loose skin on the face and neck. It also helps smooth out skin that is wrinkled, saggy, or crepey. It keeps the skin hydrated and makes the cells make more collagen and elastin, which tightens and lifts the skin and makes it look healthier and younger. The effects of Profhilo treatments can last for up to 6–9 months, but this can vary from person to person and depends on their age and skin type.
How does Profhilo work?
Profhilo is a unique injectable made of a high concentration of a carbohydrate called hyaluron that is naturally found in the skin but decreases with age. It helps the skin stay moist and makes collagen. Profhilo is made in a unique way that doesn’t use any additives. It has a consistency like runny honey, which lets it spread evenly through the skin’s tissues and deeper structures to form a layer that keeps the skin hydrated and stimulates cell production of collagen and elastin.
What does it do?
Profhilo is different from other anti-aging injectables because it uses HA, which is used to treat loose skin on the face, neck, hands, and decolletage. This helps to remodel wrinkled, sagging, and crepey skin that comes with age. It hydrates and tightens the skin and has been shown to stimulate the cells that make collagen and elastin. This helps tighten, lift, and improve the quality of the skin to make it look younger. The effects of Profhilo treatments can last for up to 6–9 months, but this can vary from person to person and depends on their age and skin type. The treatment makes new collagen and elastin cells and makes fine lines and wrinkles look better.
How will the treatment work?
For the treatment, the product is put under the skin with a fine needle at points chosen to make sure it is safe and get the most lifting effect from the product. Profhilo is spread evenly over the surrounding tissues to keep them hydrated and to encourage the production of collagen and elastin. For this reason, you must have two treatments on your face or neck spaced out by 3 to 5 weeks, or three treatments on your hands and décolletage spaced out by the same amount of time. If you want to keep going, you can get more treatments every 6 to 9 months or when the effects of the treatment start to wear off. The Profhilo treatment can be used on its own or with other cosmetic treatments.
Who can’t take Profhilo?
People who have been allergic to hyaluronan in the past, who have anaphylaxis to bee stings, who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who have permanent fillers or facial implants, who are sick with a cold, sinusitis, or a facial infection, who have had keloid scars in the past, who are going to the dentist in a month or who are going abroad in less than four days. If you just got a shot, it’s best to stay away from it. People with autoimmune disorders need to be careful.
What about putting it together with other beauty treatments?
You can use Profhilo® with other cosmetic treatments, but you should wait two weeks before using botulinum toxin. Before or after the treatment, you can’t use microdermabrasion, chemical peels, or IPL for 1–2 weeks. Stay away from fractional resurfacing for 4 weeks before and after a Profhilo treatment.
What are the rare side effects?
This treatment doesn’t cause too many problems and is well accepted. Since Profhilo doesn’t contain any man-made chemicals, it’s unlikely that you’ll have an allergic reaction to it, but it’s still possible. If you do, you might get redness, swelling, or hard lumps. This is fixed by using an enzyme to break up the Profhilo. Since the skin barrier is broken during placement, there is a small chance of getting an infection that might need antibiotics. It is very unlikely that vascular occlusion will happen because of where the product is placed. Still, Profhilo could accidentally get into a blood vessel, which can damage the skin and leave scars if not treated with an enzyme that dissolves all the filler. With other fillers, blindness or a stroke have happened very rarely, and the risk is higher if the filler is put in the nose or between the eyes. This is still a risk with this treatment.
